Capturing and freezing moments in time is an incredible form of art. Family pictures will last a lifetime and will be cherished forever. I am going to share a few tips that have helped me when taking pictures of families with infants (typically between 4-8 months old).

Schedule

When taking pictures of infants/toddlers you are no longer in charge. It is very important that you communicate with your client (family) and get a very good idea on when the child is most alert, awake, and happy. For example, this family told me that there little girl was most active and happy in late afternoon about an hour before it was time to have a bottle. So I planned to meet them later in the day and it was a success!

Blankets, Toys, and Books

I always encourage families to bring items that the child loves to play with. Remember the goal is to get pictures of the child happy. In these pictures I had brought a blanket with books and toys that Jackson loved to hold.

Have Fun

This tip is basic but you can easily forget it. . . Just have fun! You may need to stop so the child can eat or take a quick nap. Just go with the flow. Remember you are not on your schedule anymore! I love capturing candid moments in-between poses!

These 3 tips will help you get started capturing great memories for families! Remember even if you have a detailed plan it can all go out the window! The last tip I want to leave you with is to take the most important picture first incase the child gets fussy or sleepy. Have fun and good luck!!!
